Adaptive and Maladaptive Perfectionism in Engineering (AMPERE)

What is AMPERE?

AMPERE is a research-based measure designed to understand how Adaptive and Maladaptive perfectionism show up in engineering education. It focuses on how students navigate high standards, performance pressure, and decision-making in academic contexts.

What AMPERE Measures

  • Adaptive Perfectionism
Goal-setting, persistence, and motivation that support learning and growth.
  • Maladaptive Perfectionism
Self-criticism, fear of failure, and rigidity that interfere with well-being and performance.
  • Decision-making under pressure
How students respond when expectations, uncertainty, and evaluation intersect.

Who This Is For

  • Engineering undergraduate students
  • Graduate students in STEM fields
  • (WIP) Faculty and professionals interested in research on perfectionism and performance

Participation Status

Current status: AMPERE is in the final validation phase. Opportunities to participate will be shared here when available.

Ethics
